X-Men Origins - Wolverine Review

X MEN ORIGINS - WOLVERINE...

Well this review is a week late.. But what the heck.. I saw Wolverine Origins last week..

Well this movie is a prequel to a long comic book saga, which has three feature films to it's name already. Most us us might have known what to expect from this movie, from a storyline perspective anyway.

How did Wolverine come to be? How the hell did he get those Adamantium claws. Well the movie does address all those details. But is any good?

Well it's good, but it's not great. It's nowhere close to great. The movie picks up from Logan's childhood and chronicles his life with his brother by his side... (Question here by the way.. Is Sabretooth his Brother? Or is it just another Animal like mutant?)

One cool thing about the movie is that it brings in some one of the classic X-Men characters in Gambit, played by Taylor Kitsch brings out the cool card shark who throws flaming cards at you if you piss him off.

If you are an X-Men fan, you will enjoy this movie. You will feel that Logan's life makes more sense, and also all those scenes in the previous movies with short flashbacks of his life start to make sense. Also, the action and special effects are really good as always.

If you don't know anything about X-Men lore, don't bother watching this movie. I really don't think you will enjoy it. Ask my wife.

This is a movie for those who've seen the cartoons, read the comics and always wondered how Wolverine got that way.

All in all I'd say the movie is 3 out of 5...

Star Trek - Review

Well, I was waiting for it very eagerly for quite some time now. I was worried not sure what to expect. I've been a "Trekkie" from the time I was a kid, we used to watch the Star Trek episodes with William Shatner & Leonard Nemoy and the rest of the Enterprise crew... From there most us us got hooked to the Next Generation and it's crew.

Star Trek has been an epic saga of 3 Generations, Jim Kirk's & Jean Luke Picard's Enterprises and of course the prequel which was called "The Enterprise". I guess what made me so intrigued by this movie was that it was touching on turh which is really close to the original storyline. The characters were not some unknown new crews but the good old crew of the original enterprise with new actors playing the parts.

We all knew that Leonard Nemoy has a major part in this movie.. But no one knew why... Keep reading, I'll tell you.. But at your own risk.. :D

All I can say is that the movie is very well made and thouroghly enjoyable... It starts with a Romulan ship destroying a Federation ship captained by George Kirk and then chronicles the lives of Jim Kirk & Spock as they become members of the crew.

Chris Pine plays the role of Jim Kirk & Zachary Quinto plays Mr. Spock... Both of them do a excellent job of playing these roles with extremely similar charateristics that you have a tough time distingushing them from Will Shatner & Leo Nemoy.

Unfortunately I cannot go further on this story without telling you too much... So I'll stop here and say, Star Trek fan or not, go watch the movie.. It's really good fun..

Caution:THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS.

Ok so here's the deal.. Star Trek released 4 comics before the release of the the Star Trek movie, which are actually a prequel to it.

Spock is now an Federation Ambassador on Romulan and has brought peace between Romulus and Remus. They discover a star which is going Super nova and potentially destroying Romulus and the rest of the galaxy. A mining ship captained by a Romulan, Nero sees the way this star destorys a small moon near it and offers to help Spock in his quest to stop the star from destroying the Romulus.

He goes to Vulcan and with the help of another Federation Ambasador, Jean Luke Picard, tries to convince them to give him a sample of "Red Matter", a substance that can destroy the star without destroying the rest of the galaxy.

Spock gets a special ship made with the help of Jeordy and heads for Romulus. So, long story short.. They are too late..Romulus is destroyed.Federation ships are sent to help with the rescue, of course enterprise is one of them. Captained by, Data.

Nero in anguish over loosing his home world and family turns into a mad man and with his crew decide to destroy the federation world. Enterprise holds him off while Spock destroys the star, but eventually his Ship (which is now enhanced with some Borg adaptive sheilds) and Spock's ship are pulled into the worm hole that is formed by the destruction of the star..

Well, that's where the comics leave us and the movie begins

CAUTION : STOP HERE IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET!!!

So Nero's ship comes out on the other side of the worm hole to find a Starship with Kirk's father on board. It destroy's that ship and kill's his dad, The captain.

Jim Kirk & Spock grow up and eventually join the acadamy. Suddenly all the main cast most of whom are still cadets are pulled onto the Enterprise to stop Nero as he tries to destroy Vulcan.

Around this time, Spock from the future emerges in this time zone and is captured. Eventually Vulcan is destroyed.

So, the story is great, the rest of the galaxy is saved, the enterprise crew come together to begin their missions and the Future Spock stays back to help re build the world that was destroyed.

But here is where my questions begin..

If Nero destroyed Vulcan in the Past.. Then how does Spock go to Vulcan in the future to stop the Star from going Super Nova?

Of course even bigger question. So does this mean that the entire Star Trek series of the past is no longer valid. Because, with no Vulcan.. most of the storyline falls apart.

Of course if that were the case then there may not have been a Nero in the future who wanted to avenge Romulus' destruction, as he would not have had Spock to blame for it. And then the changes in the past could not have happened..

Well it's a flaw in the story in my opinion. You can't change the past without the future changing too.. It does not make sense.. Every Action has an Equal and Opposite Reaction.. That's Science..

Ok.. So, this has been an extremely geeky blog.. No excuses.. I'm a huge Star Trek fan. I was devastated to see Data killed in the Nemisis movie. Seeing him the comic was great. I knew they'd figure out a way to get him back... That's what the protype was there for anyway.. :)

All said and done.. Go see the movie.. It rocks, even with it's flaws...

4 Out of 5 for JJ Abram's STAR TREK.. Way to go.. for a side story in the long running Saga.
