Chapter 6 February 19th 2015 New York City
Dave Landers, wakes up in his studio apartment to find that his girlfriend, Sara has already got up and left. Well that was just the way it was in his world. She kept extremely long hours and so did he. She worked for Sommers Reality and was one of their best agents. Dave had just started working in CY systems, it was to be the future, a huge company. It’s aim was to automate the entire world. He was just a lowly research assistant, but he had great dreams and ambitions. He wanted to ride this new wave of change and make a difference, he wanted to be the best in the business and, the wanted to make a truck load of money and buy a nice big house. Things could not have been going better for Dave, he and Sara were madly in love, they both had great futures in their professions. Life was perfect.
Life went on for the two of them and a few years later Dave decided to propose. It was the happiest moment of his life when she said yes. They were married in a small ceremony and as a wedding present for her new husband Sara gave him the deed to the house that they had both wanted. Dave was moving up the ladder at CY systems very quickly and just 5 years after joining as an assistant, he was the head of the wing.
Then one day it all changed, Dave was at work when he heard. He did not believe that something like that could have happened, he ran out of his office, got into his car and raced toward his house, as he entered his lane, he knew nothing would ever be the same again, in the distance he could see the plumes of smoke in the sky, he cut the engine and ran through the row of firefighters who tried to stop him. That was his entire world going up in smoke. As Dave tried to push through the last firefighter a man called out from behind him “Mr.Landers?” he turned around to find the fire Marshall standing there, he just looked at him in his dazed state as he continued. “ Mr.Landers, your wife and your daughter were in the house when it exploded, there was nothing we could do for them, by the time my men went in it was too late. I’m extremely sorry for your loss sir.” Dave looked at him and all he could muster out was “HOW…?” “We suspect arson sir.” Dave felt like it was a knockout punch to his gut. He thought till now it was an accident and the fire chief was telling him that his family had been murdered.
Things never really returned to normal for Dave, they never did find any clues to the arsonist and the case went cold. He returned to work and went on with life but there were so many nights when he would just sit in his apartment bottle of scotch in his hand and think of the life he had… A beautiful wife, a baby girl and lovely home and an exceptionally successful career. Now it was all but gone, all he wanted to do was put a bullet to his head. Then one day about 4 years later while doing a routine check of his online records he stumbled across a letter sent by Jack Conolly to Sara Landers. In the letter Conolly had threatened Sara and warned her of dire consequences. After reading the letter Dave just sat there stunned. What was going on between Sara and Jack Conolly? He swore he would find out. Over the next few months a very bitter story emerged. Sara had been in the middle of a land dispute between CY systems and Sommers reality when things started to get ugly. She was being threatened by CY Systems to sell and get it done with but she refused on a lot of grounds and had exposed a lot of dirt on other CY systems land dealing and threatened to take it to the authorities. This is when the blast took place, Jack Conolly had ordered her execution. Dave was shattered. His boss, his company, had been responsible for the deaths of the people that he loved. He went into Jack Conolly’s room where he was greeted by Davidson and Conolly. He presented all the evidence on his table and said “Jack, you low life son of a bitch, you couldn’t handle a problem so you have it eliminated, that was my wife you bastard” and Dave broke down and pulled out a .33 caliber pistol and got tackled to the ground by Davidson and Conolly stood over him mockingly and took the pistol, pointed it at his face and said, “ You little dick shit, who the hell do you think you are?, walking into my office and threatening me ,Jack Conolly, the most powerful man in the whole got damn world. What the hell do you think you can do with your evidence? , Do you think anyone will even listen to you or take you seriously? I own the Police department from the bottom up. Davidson, throw this piece of garbage where he belongs, he doesn’t deserve to be killed. Let us see what this chicken shit scientist can do to me….
From that day on, Dave Landers has had a new mission, To bring down the high and mighty Jack Conolly and with him CYS.
